Precious is a 4-year old female pit bull mix looking for a new home. Her original owner didn't have time for her so she's staying at Monticello Animal Hospital until she's adopted. Precious is a little shy but warms up quickly to females. She is up-to-date on her shots and will be spayed before she is adopted. She is housebroken and would prefer not living with cats. Meet Sunny....
We have a German Shepherd mix puppy that we are trying to place in a loving & appropriate home. She is 8 or 9 months old & we have had her for 4 months. She has been fixed & has all her immunization shots. She is a healthy, strong, energetic & well trainable dog. She knows some basic obedience already such as sit, lay down, roll over, shake, stay, come & lets go. She loves people & other dogs. She loves to play & loves a good belly rub more than anything.
She does have some guarding tenancies (ie over her bone or bed). We have worked on this with her by petting her while we give her a bone & then taking it away while we continue to pet her. It seems to be improving. Lately, she has been testing her dominance at home & has nipped a few times, never breaking the skin. None the less, nipping or biting of any kind in a family atmosphere does not work. I have spoken to her vet, some dog trainers & I have done a lot of research on the matter. It seems that they all agree that with proper training & exercise, these behaviors could be managed & she could be a great pet or work dog. However, it is also agreed that because we have a small child, our home may not be the best fit for her. We agree so with heavy hearts, we are trying to find the best option for her so that we don't have to bring her to a shelter where she could wait months for a new home. We love her very much & it is hard for us to say goodby so we really want her to go to a home that can show her lots of love.
If you have a property with space for her to run & you know how to train a dog or are willing to learn, she may be right for you! She would love to be in a home with another dog but maybe not a cat (she likes to chase ours but has never tried to hurt her). She loves to learn new tricks & can sniff out just about anything that has come through our yard. Please contact me if you would like to meet Sunny or know someone that would!
